We have a hands-on attitude here at GT and we are focused on delivering for our customers.
Steve Goodyer is our Senior Design Engineer who joined the business in November 2018. Steve was introduced to us by recommendation and has become a valued member of our team.
Whilst primarily office-based Steve’s role is broad and diverse, and he is happy to role his sleeves up and contribute to the teams’ efforts on the shopfloor.
Steve began his career in 1983 as an Apprentice Toolmaker before progressing to design and development. Consequently, Steve has designed tooling, moulds, jigs, and fixtures for 30+ years!
After leaving School Steve completed his Apprenticeship at Kenwood in Havant. He then joined Solent Mould Tools Ltd which was then a new ‘start-up’ formed after the closure of the Metal Box Site in Portsmouth.
In 1990 Steve moved to Blissett & Drew in Farlington where he happily worked for two years before being tempted back to Solent Mould Tools. It was here that Steve began to specialise in the manufacture of Blow Mould tooling for the bottle industry.
After eight years on the Mills Steve moved to the drawing office and took the role of Design Engineer. A position he held for three years until being promoted to Design Manager. In this role Steve oversaw a team of five engineers comprising draftsmen, design engineers and CNC programmers.
This was a busy and varied role which Steve flourished in until Solent Mould Tools ltd ceased trading in late 2018.
During his fifteen years as design manager Steve designed or supervised thousands of projects and was at the forefront of bottle design and development for many high-profile brands.
Steve’s addition to the team broadened our design expertise and capabilities. He has been using SOLIDWORKS since 2008 and his experience on this platform has helped us serve new clients in industries that were previously new to us.
Steve can design moulds from receipt of a product file or even an existing cavity design. He is equally capable of reverse engineering and re-designing current tooling. Steve has taken an active role in the implementation of our new Freedom arm and probe which he now utilises regularly.
Steve still lives locally with his Wife, has two grown up step-children and a son at Senior School. He is an avid Mountain-bike enthusiast, and you can often find him covered in mud on the dirt-tracks at Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
If you have a project that requires diligent attention to detail and design flair, then Steve will happily rise to the challenge. Our business is varied and fast paced. It is not uncommon for Steve to design a project and then be involved with final assembly and shipping.
He has earnt the respect of his colleagues with his willingness to contribute at all levels and never ceases to surprise us with his encyclopaedic knowledge of bottle mould design.
